The Stanley Cup Finals brings another game on Thursday as the Washington Capitals will visit the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada to face the Vegas Golden Knights in game five of their best-of-seven series. The Capitals have a 3-1 lead as they won the last game with a score of 6-2.
Washington Capitals Form
The Washington Capitals are in a great form and that can be seen in their recent performances. The Caps have won the last three games and they need just one win to lift their first Stanley Cup Title in the history of the team. The Capitals have been very good on the offence as they scored 16 goals in the four games of the finals so far. However, it will be interesting to see how they will cope with the Golden Knights – a team that is very strong at home. The Capitals away record stands at 30-23 so far and they have averaged 3.08 goals per game and have allowed 3.08 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, the Capitals are the 1st team in scoring during the playoffs with an average of 3.57 goals per game, converting on 29.6% of their chances. At the defensive part of the game, during the postseason, they are placed on the 4th spot in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.52 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 23.3% of their chances.
Vegas Golden Knights Form
The Vegas Golden Knights are having a great debut season. However, they are not playing well in the finals so far. After the win in the first game, the Golden Knights lost the next three games. And although they have been known to be strong at the defensive side of the game, the Golden Knights just haven’t been able to stop a strong Washington offence. However, they are playing this game on their home ice and they had a great success this season playing in front of their fans. The Golden Knights home record stands at 36-14 and they have averaged 3.58 goals per game and have allowed 2.42 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Vegas has been below average in the playoffs so far as they are placed on the 10th spot in scoring at 2.84 goals per game, converting on 17.5% of their chances. They have been very strong at the defensive part of the game in the playoffs as they are the 2nd best team in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.26 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 20.3% of their chances.
It seems that the home ground advantage is the main element in this finals. Vegas started well as they won the first game in a dominant way at their home ground. On the other side, of Washington managed to improve their home form and won the two games in front of their own fans. The Capitals are very close winning their first Stanley Cup but I think that Vegas main weapon is their home record this season. I expect that the Golden Knights will rise and win this game. Go for the Golden Knights.
