The NHL brings the Western Conference Finals as the Vegas Golden Knights will face the Winnipeg Jets at MTS Bell Centre in game one of their best-of-seven series. The Golden Knights got their place in the Western Conference Finals against San Jose Sharks in six games. On the other side, the Jets continued their incredibly surprising season as they eliminated the Predators in seven games. Vegas was the better teams in the regular part of the season as they won two of the three meetings with Winnipeg.
Vegas Golden Knights Form
The Golden Knights are one of the best teams this season and that came as a surprise to many. Nobody expected that they will reach the Western Conference Finals in their first season in the NHL. The Golden Knight won 8 of their first 9 games and that was maybe a crucial element that gave them the confidence that they can have a great season. It is just unreal that they were the underdogs at the start of the season and now they are just one step of reaching the Stanley Cup finals. However, it will not be easy against the Jets as they have a good season as well. The Golden Knights away record this season is 26-20 and they have averaged 2.89 goals per game and have allowed 2.87 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Vegas has been below average in the postseason as they are placed on the 9th spot in scoring an average of 2.90 goals per game, converting on 17.5% of their chances. However, their main strength is the defensive side of the game, especially in the postseason, as they are the 1st team in goals allowed, conceding an average of 1.70 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 15.0% of their chances.
Winnipeg Jets Form
The Winnipeg Jets are also one of the positive surprises of the season, especially and the final part of the regular season as they won 11 of their final 12 games. The Jets were dominant in the games against the Wild and then surprised many people, (including myself) as they eliminated the Nashville Predators. The Jets took that series by winning game-seven away by a score of 5-1. That was the big surprise as they had 26-26 away record before that game in Nashville. The Jets have gone 36-11 in Winnipeg this season so far and they have averaged 3.74 goals per game and have allowed 2.43 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Winnipeg has been in a decent form as they are placed on the 5th spot in scoring an average of 3.17 goals per game, converting on 22.6% of their chances. Their defensive stats in the playoffs placed them on the 3rd spot in goals allowed, conceding an average of 2.25 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 25.0% of their chances.
Both of these two team have achieved a lot this season. The Golden Knights have not played since Sunday and are rested compared to the Jets. However, even though the Jets may be tired, I fully expect that they will keep their momentum after eliminating the Preds and take advantage of their home ground. Go for the Jets in this one.
