The NHL playoff is back in action as the Winnipeg Jets will face the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center in Minneapolis. Winnipeg is leading the series with 2-1 after being thrashed with a 6-2 at Minnesota on Sunday. The Wild will play for the second time in a row at home and they will aim to take that advantage into another win.
Winnipeg Jets Form
The Jets started the playoff on a high as they have won both games at home in this series. However, their away performance was not that great as they fell at Minnesota by a score of 6-2 on Sunday. Before this loss, Winnipeg enjoyed a seven-game winning run and they had allowed a total of five goals in their previous four games. Their aim will be to get back on winning ways, but it will not be easy as the Wilds are one of the best teams at home this season. The Jets away form for the year is 20-22 and they have averaged 2.83 goals per game and have allowed 2.88 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Winnipeg is in solid form this year as they are placed on the 2nd spot in the league in scoring at 3.33 goals per game, converting on 23.4% of their chances. On the defensive side of the game, the Jets are very solid as they are ranked 5th in goals allowed, letting in an average of 2.63 goals per game, allowing teams to convert on 18.2% of their chances.
Minnesota Wild Form
The Minnesota Wild did not finish the regular part of the season on a high. Their initial playoff form was not so good as they lost the first two games. However, they made a comeback into the series after winning the third game by a score of 6-2 here at home. It was a great win for them as it put them back into the series and it will give them a momentum going into this game. They offensive game was solid in that game as they scored 6 goals. The Wild home form this season is 28-14 and they have averaged 3.36 goals per game and have allowed 2.17 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive end of the ice, the Wild has an above average stats this season as they are placed on the 11th spot in the league in scoring at 3.05 goals per game, converting on 20.4% of their chances. At the defensive part of their game, they were above average this season as they are placed on the 11th spot in goals allowed, letting in an average of 2.79 goals per gam, allowing teams to convert on 18.8% of their chances.
The Jets started well this playoff series by winning the first two games. Their home form this year has been great and they enjoyed a freescoring perfomances. Yet, in the first away game at the Wild, they were crushed 6-2. The Jets have not been in a good form in the away games this season as they stand at 20-22. On the other side, the Wild have gone 28-14 at home for the year. And, although many of us expected the Jets to be the firm favorites to win, Minnesota showed in game three that they have some offensive surprises in the locker and I expect them to get another solid home win against the Jets.
