The NHL is back on Wednesday evening as the Pittsburgh Penguins will clash with the Philadelphia Flyers at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA in game four of their best-of-seven series. The Penguins took the lead in the series 2-1 with a 5-1 road win over the Flyers on Sunday.
Pittsburgh Penguins Form
Although, the Pittsburgh Penguins dominated in the first game of the series, yet they were not able to show the same performance as they were demolished in game two as the Flyers won by a score of 5-1. However, the Penguins are a strong team as they came back into the series with a 5-1 win over the Flyers in Philadelphia. Pittsburgh form is still on a high as they are 29-15 in their last 44 games. The Penguins away from this year is 18-24 and have averaged 3.00 goals per game and have allowed 3.31 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, the Penguins were very good during the regular season as they were placed on the 3rd spot in the league in scoring at 3.29 goals per game, converting 26.2% of their chances. At the defensive part of the game, they have been below average as they come are placed on the 20th in goals allowed, letting in an average of 3.02 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 20.0% of their chances.
Philadelphia Flyers Form
The Philadelphia Flyers surprised many in game two, as they beat the Penguins away with a score of 5-1. However, it was business back to normal as they were thrashed 5-1 at home in game 3. It seems that their offensive play is not the greatest as they are outscored by the Penguins 13-6 so far in the series. Nevertheless, their form in the final phase of the regular season was five wins in their last eight games and will aim to maintain that record. The Flyers home form this season is 22-20 as they have averaged 3.00 goals per game and have allowed 2.90 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, during the regular part of the season – they were ranked on the 12th spot in scoring at 3.04 goals per game, converting on 20.7% of their chances. At the defensive part of the game, their stats are average as they are placed on the 15th spot in goals allowed, letting in 2.88 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 24.2% of their chances.
The Flyers surprised many of us by beating the Penguins in game two. However, Pittsburgh showed the class of champions in game three as they won by a score of 5-1. The element of surprise is over for the Flyers as the Penguins will take them very seriously now. Philadephia had a good run in the late part of the regular season, but they are still no match for the two-time defending champions. I expect the Penguins to head back home with a 3-1 lead in this series.
