Dallas Stars and the Vegas Golden Knights will clash in the Western Conference Final after beating the Colorado Avalanche and the Vancouver Canucks in their respective Second Round series.
Dallas Stars Form
The Stars are one of the positive surprises since the restart. Moreover, this will be their first Western Conference final since 2008. They deserved to be here as they had to battle in order to eliminate a stubborn Avalanche team.
It was Joel Kiviranta scored the winner at 7:24 of the extra session to complete his first NHL hat trick. Therefore, he became the first rookie to score three times in a Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Stars are a strong team and it seems their main strength is their team play. They play for each other, not by each other…
On the offensive side of the game, they have the 4th highest quantity of goals per game since the restart of hockey at 3.31 per game. Also, they are 5th in scoring defence with 3.50 goals conceded on average per game. The team is 5th in power play (28.3%) and 10th in penalty kill (82.3%).
Vegas Golden Knights Form
The Golden Knights also had to work really hard in order to progress to the Western Conference finals.
They took the Vancouver Canucks in the second-round decider with a 3-0 shutout win at Rogers Place in Edmonton on Friday. Also, it is important to emphasize that they managed to bounce back after two straight losses which led to the series to 3-3 and game 7. Furthermore, the key was their good play on the blue line as they contained the ‘Nucks to just 14 shots, killed all of their four penalties and lit the lamp three times in the third period.
On the offensive side of the game, the Golden Knights, have the 6th highest number of goals per game since the NHL Return to Play Plan which is 3.27 per game. Also, they concede an average of 2.33 goals per night which is the 4th best record. The team is 8th in power play (20.5%) and 5th in penalty kill (87.8%).
Prediction
The Stars managed to use their roster in a smart way. And that gave them the edge over the Avalanche. However, Vegas is strong at the blue line and efficient going forward. The Stars are not solid at the back. Therefore, I expect a win for Vegas in this 1st game.
