New England Patriots vs. New York Jets, AFC East game. Monday Night Football with the two worst teams in the division. It’s hard to believe the Patriots are in such an ugly situation after Tom Brady’s departure. But at first things were going well. Belichick has serious problems and few options. The Jets haven’t done anything right this year, winless and losses keep piling up.
New England Patriots: The Pain of Losses.
The Patriots so far have a negative 2-5-0 record. The last four weeks were back-to-back losses to Chiefs 10-26, Broncos 12-18, 49ers 6-33 and Bills 21-24. Two on the road and two at home. At the beginning of the season the record was good with 2-1. Hopes of replacing Brady with Newton were good. But when Newton was infected with Covid-19, things changed.
The offense averages 19.43 points per game, 31.57 rushes and 159.71 rush yards, 18.71 passes completed, and 192 pass yards. The offensive problem is not that serious. The defense allows up to 23.86 points this season, 30.86 rushes with 140.43 rush yards.
Cam Newton continues to raise doubts, people still wonder if Newton is the ideal replacement for Brady. Newton missed two weeks for Covid-19. In week six he suffered two interceptions against the Broncos to lose 12-18. With the 49ers it was another disaster, three interceptions and he was benched for Stidham to play the rest of the game.
New York Jets: A win is almost impossible.
The Jets know that winning against the Patriots is not easy. Even though Brady is gone, the Jets don’t have a solid strategy against the Patriots. But tonight the Jets can try something new with Joe Flacco at quarterback. So far the team is last in the division with eight winless losses. This season at home the team has never been close to winning, but the defense performed a little better.
The team is scoring an average of 11.75 points per game, 24.25 rushes with 103 rush yards, 19.13 passes completed and 155.88 pass yards. Bad numbers to be almost in the middle of the season. The defense is a disaster, 29.75 points on average, 28.25 rushes with 116.13 rush yards.
Joe Flacco tonight as Darnold recovers from a shoulder injury. Flacco is a champion with the Ravens, but so far he’s working as a support for the Jets. Officer Flacco has two losses to the Jets in weeks five and six. Flacco’s numbers with the Jets are 41/79 passes completed, 51.90% effectiveness, 397 yards, 1 touchdown and one interception.
