Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago Bears, Monday Night Football. The Vikings are at the bottom of the division and are unlikely to recover in time. But hope is the last thing you lose. So far the Vikings have had a good two weeks. But the Bears are fighting to stay in second place in the division with a barely positive record. The division is dominated by the Green Bay Packers, but the Lions are also fighting for a spot.
Minnesota Vikings: Almost nothing is impossible.
The Vikings have a negative record at 3-5-0. The last two weeks the Vikings won against the Packers 28-22 and the Lions 34-20. Those two victories were a kind of message that the team sent to all the rivals in the division. It’s not too late yet, but it’s mathematically difficult to make the playoffs with such a lousy record. After this game the Vikings play at home against the Cowboys, Panthers and Jaguars. Three good opportunities to add more victories.
The team is scoring an average of 27.13 points per game, 29.38 rushes with 160.38 rush yards, 17.13 completed passes for 221.63 pass yards. In the second half the Vikings are more effective averaging 15.38 points per game. The defense allows up to 29.25 points per game with 29.63 rushes and 125 rush yards. The Vikings are favorites tonight with -2.5 points in the spread.
Kirk Cousins hasn’t had the best season yet. Their numbers are not good, but they are not bad either. 137/209 passes completed and 1855 yards, 15 touchdowns with 10 interceptions. Two games with three interceptions in each game. But the past two weeks, Cousins did not suffer a single interception. And for the first time this season he finished with more than 100+ QB Ratings in a row.
Chicago Bears: One more brick.
The Bears know they must win more games to fight for the division title against Green Bay. The record is positive with five wins and only four losses. But the last three weeks were a disaster. Three consecutive losses, Rams 10-24, Saints 23-26, Titans 17-24. Only one of those losses was at home against the Saints. If the Bears want to continue in the fight they have to win tonight. After this game the team plays against the division leaders in Green Bay.
The offense is scoring an average of 19.78 points per game with 22.2 rushes and 82.33 rush yards. The rushing attack is quite poor. Up to 26.44 passes completed for 235.44 pass yards. The defense allows 21.11 points per game, 28.22 rushes with 117 rush yards. The home record is 2-2-0, the last home win was against Tampa Bay 20-19 in the fifth week. Totals at home are 1-3-0.
Nick Foles took the reins of the Bears from the third week of the season. So far 187/285 passes completed, 65.61% effective for 1746 yards. 10 touchdowns and 7 interceptions. For the first time this season Nick Foles had an interceptions-free week against the Titans. Until then, Foles was averaging one interception per week. 13 personal rushes for a single touchdown.
