Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets, American Football Conference. Thursday Night Football with a little spice. Who will win, that is the big question. Two teams with a bad start to the season looking for the first victory in the fourth week. It’s not easy for the Broncos to lose so many consecutive games. But for the Jets, it’s been the custom of recent years to start by losing the first few weeks.
Denver Broncos: Let’s try.
The Broncos lost the first three weeks of the season to the Titans 14-16, the Steelers 21-26 and the Buccaneers 10-28. Two games were at home (TN and Tampa). But now the Broncos have a chance to win for the first time this season. Between 2010 and 2018 the Broncos won 3 times against the Jets. The most recent game was in 2018 at NY, a miserable 34-16 loss.
This season the Broncos are scoring an average of 15 points per game, 22 rushes with 84.33 rush yards, 22 passes completed and 205 pass yards. The defense allows up to 23.33 points per game with 27 rushes 102.33 rush yards and 27.67 passes completed. This is the first time this season the Broncos have been favorites at -3.0.
Brett Rypien has a chance as a starting quarterback this season. Drew Lock is out with injury. Driskel finished the game against the Steelers and was starting QB against the Buccaneers. Now Rypien has a golden opportunity to win the first game of the season. With no stats this year for him, Brett is expected to be better than Driskel.
New York Jets: It’s not easy to win.
The Jets suffered three consecutive losses to Bills 17-27, 49ers 13-31, Colts 7-36. The last victory against the Broncos was in 2018 at home 34-16. The last time the Jets achieved anything important was in 2010 when the team made the playoffs. Otherwise, the Jets haven’t won a super bowl since 1968. This season is expected to be as tough as the last for them.
The team averages 12.33 points per game, 24.33 rushes with 88.33 rush yards, 19.67 passes completed, and 175.33 pass yards. The defense allows up to 31.33 points per game, 30.67 rushes and 133 rush yards, 24.67 passes completed and 239 pass yards. The statistics are similar to the first weeks of last season.
Sam Darnold has been losing for three weeks. Last season in the first three weeks Darnold opened the season 1-2. After three consecutive defeats and three victories. So far his numbers are 61.46% ERA, 562 yards, 59/96 passes, 3 touchdowns and 4 interceptions, 70.7 overall rating.
