Cincinnati Bengals vs. Cleveland Browns, AFC North Game. Two teams looking for the first victory of the season. After a poor start in the first week, the Browns and Bengals are desperate for a win. Only one of them will have the victory, the other will return home with a defeat. At least of course, that the game ends in a tie (unlikely).
Cincinnati Bengals: Bad week.
The Bengals hope this season will be “different” from last season. In 2019 the Bengals only won two games in 16 weeks. Losing the first game this season is not a good sign. So far the only loss was against the Los Angeles Rams 16-13. Plus the Bengals are using a promising new QB like Joe Burrow.
In the game against the Rams the Bengals scored the first TD thanks to a rush from Burrow to take the lead 7-0. In the second quarter the Rams scored six points. But in the third quarter the Bengals took the lead again 13-6. The Bengals’ perennial defensive woes made it possible for the Rams to score 10 points to win in the fourth quarter.
Joe Burrow in his debut with the Bengals threw 23 passes completed for 63.89% effectiveness. 193 yards, 0 touchdowns and one interception. Due to the lack of connection to receivers, Burrow ran for 46 yards and a personal touchdown. On the downside, Burrow suffered a fumble and three sacks.
Cleveland Browns: This year will be better.
The Browns haven’t had good results for more than 30 years when they won the division. Last season the Browns finished 6-10 overall. Also this season the Browns have a new head coach: Stefanski. But so far the results have been negative. The first week the loss was against the Baltimore Ravens 38-6.
In the first quarter of the loss to the Ravens, the Browns showed power. 10-6 at the end of the quarter, but later in the second quarter the Ravens scored 14 points. The Browns scored the only points in the first quarter. The last win against the Bengals was December 27-19 last year at Cincinnati.
Baker Mayfield begins another season losing in the first week. 53.85% effectiveness in the first week with 21 passes completed. One touchdown and one interception, 189 yards, 2 personal rushes for just three yards. Mayfield is 3-1 against the Bengals since 2018, the most recent game being a loss after the aforementioned 23-33 victory.
