Texas State Bobcats vs. Brigham Young Cougars, I play between conferences but not much to watch. Tonight’s chance is in the hands of BYU as the favorite to win. The Cougars have an impeccable record in the Independent and are among the best teams in the AP Poll. The Bobcats have barely a win this season and are near the bottom of the conference.
Texas State Bobcats: A miracle would save us.
The Bobcats have only one win this season against Louisiana-Monroe 38-17 over a month ago. That victory was against a conference rival. But the team lost the other five games against SMU, UTSA, Boston College, Troy and last week against South Alabama 20-30. After this game the Bobcats return home to play Louisiana.
This season the Bobcats are scoring an average of 28 points per game, 215 total rushes with 839 rush yards averaging 3.9 rushes per game. The rushing attack has generated 8 touchdowns this season. The defense has allowed 949 yards this season, 4.1 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns. In the last three weeks the defense allowed only 4 rushing touchdowns.
Brady McBride is in his second year as a player, but in his first season with the Bobcats. McBride hails from Memphis where he played in just 5 games in the 2018 season. This season he has 4 consecutive losses, 83 completed passes, 61% ERA, 809 yards, 6 touchdowns with 2 interceptions.
Brigham Young Cougars: Ready to win.
The Cougars don’t know what it’s like to lose since the season started. In conference, the team has five victories as do Army and Liberty. Only BYU and Liberty are undefeated at 5-0. Last week the Cougars won 43-26 against Houston on the road. This game against the Bobcats is the second against a Sun Belt team. After this game the Cougars host Western Kentucky.
BYU is a deadly team averaging 43.6 points per game. Today they are favorites with -28.5 in the spread. The most points the team covered this season was against Louisiana Tech 45-14. The team was the favorite with -24 points. But after that victory they also won against UTSA 27-20 without covering the -34.5 in the spread.
Zach Wilson is in his third year with BYU. So far good numbers for him with 107/136 completed passes, 78.7% ERA, 1641 yards, 12 touchdowns and 1 interception. 32 personal rushes for 100 yards and 6 touchdowns. The first half is the most effective for Wilson with an average of 22.2 points in the first two quarters.
