San Diego State vs. Brigham Young, penultimate week of the season. Last game of the fifteenth week of the NCAAF. A different season for coronavirus, but here we are, strong as ever. San Diego wants to do the best they can to close the season with a positive result. But BYU is one of the deadliest teams of the season outside of the AP Top Ten. The team is dangerous playing at home.
San Diego State: We are looking for another victory here.
San Diego has a positive record with four wins and just three losses in this short season for them. The team is obviously not going to play all 16 weeks of this strange season. They barely had a chance to participate since the eighth week due to the influence of the coronavirus in national sports. Last week the team won 29-17 at home against Colorado State. Before that game the team lost to Nevada and Colorado.
The team is scoring an average of 26.1 points per game. In the last three games the team scored an average of 20 points. The record on the road is negative with 1-2. The only victory this season on the road was against Utah State 38-7. The defense allows up to 16.3 points per game this season. The team has a great running back like Greg Bell with 569 yards and 6 touchdowns this season.
Carson Backer will be the starting quarterback tonight against the Cougars. So far Backer did his best in this short season. 59/105 passes completed and 617 yards, 3 touchdowns and only 3 interceptions. 25 personal rushes and a single touchdown. In the last three games Backer has played with other Qbs to seek greater effectiveness. So far only 56.2% effective this season for him.
Brigham Young: Ready to close.
The Cougars are ready for everything tonight. The team wants the tenth victory at home at any cost. Sadly last week the Cougars fell on the road against Coastal Carolina 17-22. That loss ended a nine-week nonstop winning streak. The Cougars did not play the second and third weeks. So far the team has a chance to “win” the conference with 10 wins. The best thing about the season for BYU was ranking eighth in the AP Poll this season.
Offense is averaging 44.5 points per game. Most TDs are rushing attack. The rushing attack is led by Tyler Allgeier with 12 touchdowns and 1,071 yards this season. The team doesn’t officially have a star RB but Tyler is doing an excellent job as a wide receiver. The defense allows up to 14.7 points per game this season. It is a solid and strong defense.
Zach Wilson we have already seen him play this season, he is a complete player with various specialties. 195 passes completed for 73% effectiveness this season, 2,964 yards, 27 touchdowns and 3 interceptions. 197.4 overall rating ranks him as one of the best of the season. Wilson has personally run for 246 yards and 8 touchdowns. In the last game, against Coastal Carolina, Wilson suffered an interception and it was one of the few games with fewer than 20 passes completed.
