This tournament has served to demonstrate that the Longhorns did not have a bad regular season. The other step that the Longhorns lack is to defeat the Horned Frogs. For TCU the regular season is forgotten, the new goal for the team is to win the NIT.
Texas Longhorns: An unstoppable dream.
The Longhorns want to improve the season by winning the NIT, but they must still show more. The record in the regular season was only positive with 16 wins and 15 losses. In the conference the record was negative with 8-10 in the sixth place of the Big 12. For the championship of the conference they could not pass of the first game losing against Kansas 57-65. The NIT has been a different story, the three victories were against South Dakota State 79-73, Xavier 78-76 OT and Colorado 68-55.
In season the Longhorns are scoring an average of 71.1 points per game, 25.30FG points, 71.01% free throw shots, 8.67 three pointers, 12.93 assists. The defense allows up to 67.1 points per game, 23.90 FG points, 69% free throw shots, 7.50 three pointers, 11.30 assists.
The ATS record is 16-19-0 overall in the season. In the NIT the record is negative with 1-2-0, the only victory was against Colorado being favorites with -5.0 in the spread. The average points in the spread is -4.1 overall in the season.
TCU Horned Frogs: With faith to win.
The Horned Frogs are a determined team with faith to win the NIT. In all the last games of the NIT the team has been forceful and precise, they have not let themselves be broken by any other rival. The victories at the NIT have been against Sam Houston 82-69, Nebraska 88-72 and the last against Creighton 71-58. The record in the regular season was 19-12, and in the conference the record was negative with 7-11 in the Big 12. In the championship of the conference they won against Oklahoma State 73-70 but lost against Kansas State 61-70.
So far the Horned Frogs have an average of 74.4 points per game, 26.90 FG points, 68.8% free throw shots, 7.62 three pointers, and 16.38 assists. The defense has been slightly good allowing only 70 points per game, 25.86 FG points, 72.9% free throw shots, 6.45 three pointers and 15.41 assists.
The ATS record is negative with 17-18-0 overall. But in the NIT the Horned Frogs were dominant in the last three games as favorites, the record is 3-0-0. The spreads completed as favorites were -12, -4.5 and -3.5. For this game they are also favorites with -3.5 in the spread. The record against Texas is 6-10, but 9-7-0 in the spread. The last victory was last month being underdogs +7.0 in the spread.
