Denver Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers, Game 2 Western Conference Semifinals. Zero surprises during the first game of this round. The Clippers did what everyone expected. The team won by a wide margin, showing off offensive power once. But they did get a chance to show some power in the first quarter.
Denver Nuggets: Tough Situation.
The Nuggets did their best in the first game. The first quarter was tough, 31 points each, it was a good sign. But after that quarter, the Nuggets didn’t know how to stop the Clippers’ offensive power. The only thing the Nuggets were superior to was offensive rebounding effectiveness with 25% versus 24.3%. Everything else was dominated by the Clippers.
The team is scoring an average of 108.4 points per game in the playoffs. 39.5 FG points, 81.6% free throw shots, 14.4 three pointers, 21.9 assists, 5.4 steals and 10.8 offensive rebounds. The defense is bad, the Nuggets allow up to 114.3 points per game, 40.9 FG points, 42.1% three pointers, 21.6 assists and 9.3 offensive rebounds.
Jamal Murray slumped again. Murray barely scored 12 points in the first game of the round. After he himself scored over forty points in the last games against the Jazz. But Jokic was the top scorer for the Nuggets in Game 2 with 15 points. From the bench the team scored up to 40 points to face the Clippers.
Los Angeles Clippers: Offensive power.
The Clippers have in their hands a perfect opportunity to show that no one can stop the team’s offense. The first victory in this second was 120-97. The Clippers won three quarters and only conceded the fourth quarter 29-30. The Clippers were favorites -9.0 on the spread, but we expected the Nuggets to do a little more to slow down the Clippers’ offense.
For now, the Clippers are the only team in the playoffs that are scoring 125.7 points per game. No other team is above 115 points. The team scores 45.6 FG points, 81.3% free throw shots, 21.4 assists, 7.1 steals, 8.7 offensive rebounds, 13.4 three pointers. The only weak point is defense. Clippers allow up to 114.1 points per game, 12.9 three pointers and 21.3 assists.
Leonard scored 29 points in the first game. George 19, Morris 18, Zubac 4 and Beverly 8. From the bench the team scored 42 points. The leader in points from the bench was Harrell with 15 points. Leonard leads the Clippers with 32.3 points per game in the playoffs.
