Washington Nationals vs. Houston Astros, World Series game 7. The Nationals return home with another opportunity. In Houston, the Nationals avoided what many thought would happen, but the Astros could not take advantage of playing at home. In Houston everything went wrong for the Astros, in the first innings the Nationals scored the first run and that was a sign of trouble. Houston could never recover, the defeat was painful.
Washington Nationals: At home without winning.
The Nationals did a good job winning the sixth game against the Astros in Houston. But the favorites were not the Nationals after giving up as many victories to the Astros at home. Favoritism was not key in the sixth game, as the Nationals played as if they were in game one of the world series. So far no team has won games at home and that is negative for the Nationals, as the team lost three times in Washington against the Astros.
At home the Nationals are scoring an average of 5.45 runs per game, 3.70 walks, 7.90 strikeouts, 9.00 hits, 1.52 home runs and 14.22 left on base. The defense allows up to 4.74 runs per game, 3.20 walks, 9.58 strike outs, 8.93 hits, 1.40 home runs and 14.27 left on base.
Max Scherzer will be available for this game after recovering from neck problems. Joe Ross had replaced Scherzer to open the fifth game of the series. 11-7 in 27 games as starter this season, 172.1 pitched innings, 2.92 ERA, 144 hits, 59 runs, 18 home runs, 243 strike outs 1027 WHIP.
Houston Astros: Another advantage.
The Astros cannot go back and win the game at home to keep the title of the World series. But today the team has a golden opportunity. The Astros know that Max Scherzer is not playing at 100% capacity. The neck pains continue to wreak havoc on Scherzer, the doctors gave him a cortisone injection but that is temporary. In addition, the Scherzer season has not been the best.
On the road the Astros are scoring an average of 5.25 runs per game, 4.03 walks, 7.35 walks, 9.28 hits, 1.67 home runs, 15.72 left on base. The defense allows 3.85 runs, 2.93 walks, 9.80 strike outs, 7.31 hits, 1.17 home runs, 12.55 left on base. The Astros won three games against the Nationals on the road. The team allowed only three runs and scored 19 runs.
Zack Greinke to close the series. The Astros know that Greinke is the name to win the title. This season 8-1 in 10 games as starter. 62.2 pitched innings, 3.02 ERA, 58 hits, 25 runs, 6 home runs, 52 strike outs, 1069 WHIP. Greinke won the first game against the Nationals on the road 4-1.
