The MLB is back in action on Thursday evening as the Washington Nationals will clash with the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park in Atlanta, Georgia in game one of their four-game series. The Nationals will give the nod to Tanner Roark and the Braves will counter with Sean Newcomb.

The Washington Nationals just a half a game out of first in the National League East. It seems that it will be a very tight race with the Atlanta Braves this season. The Nationals head into this game as they have now won five games in a row and seven of their last eight. Their pitching has been very solid lately as they have allowed just 2.0 runs per game during those last eight games. They will their main weapon in this series against a very strong Atlanta Braves team. The Nationals have averaged 5.00 runs per game and have allowed 3.56 runs per game on the road so far.

The Atlanta Braves are one of the top teams in the National League East. It is a very interesting contest between them and the Nationals. However, their recent form is not so good as the Braves record stands at 7-7 in their last 14 games. The Braves have averaged 5.48 runs per game and have allowed 4.57 runs per game here at home so far. Sean Newcomb record against the Nationals stands at 0-2 with a 9.72 ERA in two starts.
On the offensive side of the game, the Braves have been very good on offense so far as they head into game as the 4th team in the league in scoring, putting up an average of 5.13 runs per game, while also holding the 2nd spot in hitting at .266 and 11th in homers with a total of 64. On the mound, they have some solid stats and they are placed on the 10th spot in the league in ERA at 3.64 while also ranking 21st in WHIP at 1.35 and 9th in K’s with 480.
The Braves have dropped their pace lately, yet they are still one of the main contenders for the top spot of the National League East. On the other side, the Nationals are on the up and I expect that they will continue with their solid performances in this game as well. Go for the National in this one.
