The MLB is back in action as the Toronto Blue Jays will clash with the Washington Nationals.
This will the first game of a four-game series. The Blue Jays will give the nod to Trent Thornton and the Nationals will counter with Anibal Sanchez.
Toronto Blue Jays Form
The Blue Jays were one of those teams that looked optimistic about the new season. Moreover, the Toronto side has some key prospects that were expected to help lead the franchise to a potential playoff berth. Although it is still early in the season, some of that optimism has most likely vanished from the minds of Blue Jays fans after Sunday’s disappointing loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
However, the Blue Jays will hope that this loss will have a significant long term effect on their morale.
Therefore, they will be going with Trent Thornton as the starter for this game which should provide fans with a slight lack of confidence. His record from last season was 6-9 combined with a 4.84 ERA so he struggled in most of his outings.
Washington Nationals Form
The Champions headed into this season with high hopes after they had a great season last year which culminated winning their first-ever World Series last October. However, Washington blew a two-run lead late in Sunday’s game before eventually losing by one run.
On a positive note, the Nationals will be playing a few games at home now and that is their chance to bounce back. And to put their season back on track.
Anibal Sanchez will get the nod in this game and he had an 11-8 record along with a 3.85 ERA and, he was also very consistent in the playoffs. Therefore, he has the winning momentum on this side.
Prediction
Both teams will aim to get back to winning ways. Moreover, they expected more from the beginning of the season. However, I expect the Nationals to capitalize on playing at home. They are the better team and there is more to come from them. Take the Nats in this one.
