The MLB is back in action today as the Tampa Bay Rays will clash with the Toronto Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario in a game three of a four-game series. Tyler Glasnow will get the nod for the Rays and the Blue Jays will counter with Thomas Pannone.
Tampa Bay Rays Form
The Rays never had a chance for the top spot in their division this season. Being in the same division with the Red Sox is a probably the biggest obstacle for any team to reach the postseason. The Rays are also 6.5 games behind the A’s for the 2nd Wildcard slot in the AL. They will have only 10 games to get that wildcard position. However, it is almost impossible for them to get there as they have to win most of their games. The Rays have averaged 4.19 runs per game and have allowed 4.51 runs per game on the road.
Tyler Glasnow will start this game and his record against the Jays stands at 0-1 with a 12.71 ERA in two games.
On the offensive side of the game, the Rays are placed on the 18th spot in the league in scoring, putting up an average of 4.39 runs per game. They are also placed on the 2nd spot in hitting at .260 and on the 27th spot in homers with a total of 141 so far. On the mound, they have been good as they are placed on the 3rd spot in the league in ERA at 3.63. The Rays are also placed on the 3rd spot in WHIP at 1.19. Regarding K’s they are on the 12th spot with 1323.
Toronto Blue Jays Form
The Blue Jays were not able to achieve their goal of reaching the playoffs. They will not take part in the postseason and they can only play for pride and prestige in the remaining games. The Blue Jays have averaged 4.59 runs per game and have allowed 4.87 runs per game here at home for the year.
On the offensive side of the game, the Blue Jays have been average as they are placed on the 16th spot in the league in scoring, putting up an average of 4.43 runs per game. They are also placed on the 20th spot in hitting at .244 and on the 5th spot in homers with a total of 205. On the mound, they have been poor this season as they are placed on the 26th spot in the league in ERA at 4.84. Toronto is also placed on the 26th spot in WHIP with an average standing at 1.41.
The Rays have some slim chances to get a wildcard for a postseason spot. However, it seems that that will be a very task for them to achieve as they have to rely on other teams’ results. On the other side, the Blue Jays have nothing to play for, except being a spoiler for other teams. Still, I expect that the Rays will put the performance in this game in order to win and keep their wildcard hopes alive. Take the Rays in this one.
