Major League Baseball action on Saturday afternoon as the St Louis Cardinals will visit the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio to clash with the Cincinnati Reds in game two of their three-game set. The Cardinals will give the nod to Michael Wacha, while the Reds will give a start to Luis Castillo.
St Louis Cardinals Form
The Cardinals have been a solid team so far this season, however, they were surprised in the series against the Marlins. They were the favourites to win all three games, however, the Marlins won two games of the series. Yet, the Cards managed to bounce back in the third game as they won in a dominant way with a score of 4-0. The Cardinals have averaged 4.37 runs per game and have allowed 4.07 runs per game on the road.
Michael against the Reds stands at 10-1 with a 2.88 ERA in 18 games (16 starts), including 5-1 with a 2.54 ERA in eight starts at the Great American Ballpark.
On the offensive side of the game, the Cardinals have been below average as they are placed on the 16th spot in the league in scoring, putting up an average of 4.27 runs per game, while also holding the 19th spot in hitting at .242 and on the 14th spot in homers with a total with 71 so far. On the mound, they have been solid as they are placed on the 8th spot in the league in ERA at 3.56 while also being on the 13th spot in WHIP at 1.26 and 21st in K’s with 500.
Cincinnati Reds Form
The Cincinnati Reds are one of the teams that are struggling this season. It seems that they are going through a rebuilding process and that is affecting their results. They head into this game after the tight contest on Friday. The Reds were more than a match in that game against the Cards, yet they lost the with a score of 7-6. They were close but that was not enough to win the game. However, that performance will give them confidence that they can get something in this game, but they need to be better on the mound. The Reds have averaged 4.03 runs per game and have allowed 5.52 runs per game here at home so far.
Luis Castillo record against the Cardinals stands at 0-2 with a 4.76 ERA in two starts.
On the offensive side of the game, the Reds have been poor this season as they are placed on the 22nd spot in the league in scoring, putting up 4.14 runs per game, while also holding the 13th spot in hitting at .250 and the 24th spot in homers with a total of 61 so far. On the mound, they have some poor stats as they are placed on the 29th spot in the league in ERA at 5.01, while also holding the 28th spot in WHIP at 1.47 and 23rd in K’s with 487.
The Reds are one of the worst teams in the MLB this season. On the other side, the Cardinals are one of the better teams this season. However, they did not play well recently as they lost two of the three games against a poor Marlins team. Nevertheless, they got back to winning ways in the third game and I expect that they will be focused to win this game. Although the first game between the two teams was very tight, I still think that the Cardinals are the better collective. Go for the Cardinals in this one.
