Seattle Mariners vs. Minnesota Twins, first game of the series. A long series begins between the Mariners and Twins. The Mariners have already won the last series at home against the Athletics, but the Twins also won the last on the road. The Team keep improving the record at home, but it’s still negative. The Mariners had not won a series since April. The Twins have played well on the road this season, positive record and only lost two series.
Seatlle Mariners: At home everything is easier.
The Mariners have a negative record at home with nine wins and eleven losses. The last winning series was a short series against the Athletics 2-0. Prior to that series the Mariners lost four consecutive games and tied a series against the Rangers 2-2. At home the record has been negative most of the season. The defense has been weak at home and the offense has been nothing effective against rivals.
At home the Mariners are scoring an average of 4.65 runs per game, 3.85 walks, 7.20 hits, 1.40 home runs and 12.90 left on base. The defense allows up to 5.75 runs per game, 3.40 walks, 8.75 strike outs, 9.45 hits, 1.60 home runs and 15.40 left on base. Since last season they do not play against the Twins. The last series was at home, four games, all victories for the Mariners.
Erik Swanson will open the first of the series. Negative record for Swanson in the regular season, a win in five games. His numbers are 6.35 ERA, 28.1 pitched innings, 31 hits, 24 runs, 7 home runs, 21 strike outs and 1,271 WHIP. Two defeats at home without victories for Swanson.
Minnesota Twins: With confidence on the road.
The Twins have a positive record on the road this season, twelve wins and seven losses. Before this series the Twins swept the Blue Jays 3-0. The other series was lost against the Yankees 1-2. In the last seven series at home the record is 3-3-1. The defense has been good, but the best thing is the powerful offense scoring almost 7 runs per game this season on the road.
On the road the Twins are scoring an average of 6.00 runs per game, 2.67 walks, 10.05 hits, 2.22 home runs, 17.48 left on base. The defense allows up to 4.84 runs per game, 3.56 walks, 7.33 strike outs, 8.16 hits, 1.39 home runs and 13.89 left on base. In the last series against the Royals, the Twins allowed only one run in the entire series.
Michael Pineda is designated tonight to play. Two victories in five games for him this season. 5.85 ERA, 40.00 pitched innings, 49 hits, 27 runs, 10 home runs, 35 strike outs and 1,450 WHIP. The record is negative for Pineda on the road, a victory in three games. The only victory was in April in the series against the Phillies 6-2.
