San Diego Padres vs. St. Louis Cardinals, second game of the series. The first victory of the series was for the home team. The game was tight as we imagined it. But the Padres scored a couple of important runs to win the game. Actually the Cardinals had a good pitcher in the mount, but that did not help. The Padres always had the advantage of playing at home, but tonight things will be a little more balanced on the mount.
San Diego Padres: A game to win the series.
The Padres tonight will look for another victory to win the series. But last night the evidence of a strong defense by the Cardinals showed that this series will not be easy. The Cards scored the first run of the game in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning the Padres took the lead with two runs and the last run was in the eighth inning. Eric Hosmer was the best of the Padres with 1-2-2 in 4 at bats.
Last night the Padres allowed 9 hits, and the team could only score 7 hits throughout the game. The defense was slightly bad in the first five innings. At home the average is 3.71 runs per game, 2.74 walks, 7.24 hits and 1.32 home runs. The defense allows up to 4.02 runs per game. In the first game the Padres used five pitchers, Lauer was the pitcher with the most hits in the game with 6 in total.
Chris Paddack will be used tonight to open the second game of the series. This is his first year as a professional for Paddack. 4-4 in 13 games as a starter. 3.18 ERA, 70.2 pitched innings, 53 hits, 30 runs, 25 home runs, 73 strike outs, 0.976 WHIP.
St. Louis Cardinals: Ready for everything.
The Cardinals increased the negative record on the road with another loss. Now the record is 15 wins and 23 losses. This is the third loss in the last 5 games on the road. Although the team scored the first run of the game, that did not help to win the game. Of the last five series on the road, this is the fourth time that the team loses the first game of the series.
On the road the Cardinals are scoring an average of 4.37 runs per game, 3.49 walks, 9.46 strike outs, 8.26 hits, 1.41 home runs, 14.41 left on base. 5.00 runs per game, 3.70 walks, 8.43 strike outs, 8.18 hits and 1.32 home runs. The best thing about the first game for the Cards was that the team only used two pitchers in the whole game, Wacha and Gallegos.
Dakota Hudson will be on the mount with the Cards tonight for the second game. Second year as a professional, 6-3 in 15 games as a starter. 85.2 pitched innings, 40 runs, 10 home runs, 60 strike outs and 1,471 WHIP. Hudson’s last game was in the team’s most recent win with the Mets 4-3.
