San Diego Padres vs. Colorado Rockies, first game in the series. Four games for parents at home against the Rockies. Both teams with negative problems. The visitors have more than ten defeats over the victories. The Rockies have not won a series on the road for a long time. For the Parents this series can represent an opportunity to recover the record at home. But the home team has no hope of going any further this season.
San Diego Padres: We don’t want to be the last ones.
The Padres have a negative record at home with 25 wins and 30 losses. The last series at home were a disaster. Against the Orioles they drew 1-1; they lost against the Giants 2-1. The worst was before those two series, a losing streak at home of eight games against Braves, Giants and Cardinals. 2-8 in the last 10 games at home. 52-61 in the West division of the NL.
At home the parents are scoring an average of 3.93 runs per game, 2.83 walks, 9.11 strike outs, 7.56 hits, 1.46 home runs, 12.39 left on base. The defense allows up to 4.38 runs, 2.65 walks, 8.91 strike outs, 8.33 hits, 1.30 home runs, 13.50 left on base. At least the defense is slightly effective at home. In the last 5 games at home, the Padres allowed only 19 runs to the visitors.
Eric Lauer will open the series tonight. So far Lauer has had a negative season with 6-8 in 20 games as a starter. 105.2 pitched innings, 4.43 ERA, 111 hits, 57 runs, 12 home runs, 87 strike outs, 1344 WHIP.
Colorado Rockies: Total failure.
The Rockies don’t know how to win on the road. 3-7 in the last ten games. The team has not won a series on the road since June 26 against the Giants. After that series, the team was swept by the Diamondbacks, lost to the Yankees, Nationals, Reds and Astros. In the NL West Division, the Rockies are the worst team with 52-62 overall.
On the road the Rockies are scoring an average of 4.22 runs per game, 2.62 walks, 10.41 strike outs, 7.86 hits, 1.10 home runs, 12.79 left on base. The defense allows up to 4.66 runs per game, 3.48 walks, 7.88 strike outs, 8.41 hits, 1.36 home runs and 13.91 left on base. In the last series, in just two games, the Padres allowed 25 runs.
Jon Gray 10-7 in 23 games as starter this season. Tonight Gray will look for a victory on the road for the Rockies. 4.03 ERA, 136.1 pitched innings, 136 hits, 63 runs, 18 home runs, 139 strike outs, 1394 WHIP. The last game at home was a defeat for Gray against the Nationals 2-3.
