The Cubs are in a commanding form at the moment. Moreover, this Chicago team is heading into this game on the wings of four-game winning streak including the latest win against the A’s in the first game of this series. Now, the Cubs have a 2.5 lead over the Cardinals in the division and 4.0 games lead over the Brewers.
The Cubs will need to keep winning in order to secure a playoff spot. But that will be hard as they are facing the Reds, the Pirates and the Phillies away in their next three series. And with an away record of 21-33, the Cubs have a mountain to climb in the next three series. Still, the team is showing some good performances lately and that will spur them heading into this game.
On the offensive side of the game, the Cubs score an average of 4.96 runs per game. Also, they are 15th in hitting at .253 and 10th in homers with 175. The A’s are a good team and are playing well at the moment. However, the Cubs won the first game of the series and it seems that their form is going up in these crucial last weeks of the regular part of the season. Also, they have the solid Jon Lester as he has a good record against Oakland. Therefore, my pick here is Chicago.
