New York Yankees vs. Houston Astros, American League Championship Series game 3. The Astros won a game against the Yankees in Houston to tie the series. Now work continues but in New York. The Astros are still favorites, but for very little. The home team hopes to do more damage playing at home. The first game against the Astros was relatively easy, but the second game demonstrated power from the mound that Houston has with Sanchez, Cole and Verlander.
New York Yankees: At home against everyone.
The Yankees won the first ALCS game against the Astros 7-0. That first game was totally dominated by the Yankees. But most of the runs were during the second half of the game between the sixth and ninth inning. The other problem the Yankees suffered was in the second game. The Astros defense was much harder, Verlander’s work was almost perfect against New York.
At home the Yankees are scoring an average of 5.52 runs per game, 3.34 walks, 8.46 strike outs, 1.77 home runs, 12.85 left on base. The defense allows up to 3.88 runs, 3.04 walks, 10.01 strike outs, 7.92 hits, 1.41 home runs, 13.52 left on base. Before the American League championship, the Yankees won a four-game series against the Astros at home 3-1.
Luis Severino to open the first game at home. This season only 1-1 in three games as starter. 12 pitched innings, 1.50 ERA, 6 hits, 2 runs, 17 strike outs, 1000 WHIP. Severino was limited most of the season by an injury to his shoulder and back muscles.
Houston Astros: We’re going to win today.
The Astros can take advantage of Severino’s return with few games this season. The Astros know that with a good offense the team can easily win against a pitcher who hasn’t had much to prove this year. The second game was marked by a fierce defense by both teams, but for now the Astros just want to take the advantage to return home.
On the road the Astros are scoring an average of 5.24 runs per game, 4.00 walks, 7.35 strike outs, 9.30 hits, 1.67 home runs, 15.59 left on base. The defense allows up to 4.00 runs per game, 2.85 walks, 9.76 strike outs, 7.46 hits, 1.20 home runs, 12.43 left on base. The last series that the Astros lost on the road was against the Athletics on August 1-3.
Gerrit Cole is the key to this victory. 20-5 in 33 games as starter. The best season for Cole in seven years as a professional. So far 212.1 pitched innings, 2.50 ERA, 142 hits, 66 runs, 29 home runs, 326 strike outs, 0895 WHIP.
