The MLB is back in action today as the Chicago Cubs will clash with the Cincinnati Reds. This will be game one of a three-game set.
Chicago Cubs Form
The Cubs are showing some good performances lately. Moreover, they had a very good game in the last game against the Braves with a score of 9-9. Also, it is important to emphasize that Kimbrel got the save in the game in his first appearance this season. Also, Tyler Chatwood had a good game as he secured the win after allowing six hits and four walks while striking out five in 5.0 innings of work. He is now 4-1 with a 4.50 ERA on the year. The Cubs ended up with a split of the four-game series and their record stands at 7-10 in their last 17 games, Chicago still maintains a 1.0 game lead over the Brewers for first place in the National League Central. However, the Brewers are a good team and they will surely challenge the Cubs
On the offensive side of the game, the Cubs score an average of 5.07 runs per game, while also being on the 16th in hitting at .253 and 8th in homers with 126. On the mound, they have been solid as they are placed on the 6th spot in the league in ERA at 3.92, while also being 13th in WHIP at 1.30 and 13th in K’s with 705.
Cincinnati Reds Form
The Reds are not playing well this season. And same as last year, they are on the bottom spot of the National League Central Division. Also, last season they had one of the worst records in the league but it seems that this season they have improved the mound and at the plate. However, their offence is still not good enough.
Furthermore, their recent form is not good enough as they lost 4 games in a row.
Additionally, their pitching is struggling as the Reds have allowed 30 runs in their last 5 games.
Therefore, it is safe to say that they need to improve.
On the offensive side of the game, the Reds score an average of 4.31 runs per game which is the 24th record in the league in scoring. They are 27th in hitting at .234 and 17th in homers with 108. On the mound, they are placed on the 3rd spot in the league in ERA at 3.65, while also ranking 5th in WHIP at 1.25 and 7th in K’s with 746.
Prediction
The Cubs just finished a challenging series against the Braves. Moreover, they have struggled to play away from home. On the other side, the Reds have been playing well in front of their home fans.
However, I will pick the Cubs here as they will have the in-form pitcher Cole Hamels and they are the better team.
Also, the offensive firepower of the Reds is not at the needed level at the moment. Therefore, I expect an away win for the Cubs in this one.
