Baltimore Orioles: The numbers don’t lie.
The last two seasons of the Orioles have been a failure. The team closed 2019 with 54 wins and 108 losses. In 2018 the drama was almost the same with 47-115. The Orioles have been out of the playoffs since 2017. The last time the team dive in the postseason was in 2014 when they won the divisional series against the Tigers and lost the ALS Championship against the Royals.
Last season the Orioles played three series in Boston, the last one was a victory for the Orioles 2-1 in September 2019. The first game of that year against the Red Sox was a victory for the 6-4 home team. On the road the record was negative with 29-52 overall, the team averaged 4.57 runs and 8.63 hits.
Tommy Milone will be in the mound. This will be the tenth season as a professional for Milone, his last team was Seattle Mariners with 4-10, 4.76 ERA. Milone also played for Nationals, Brewers, and Mets. The best season for him was in 2013 with the Athletics 12-9.
Boston Red Sox: Another season to be great.
Fewer games for the Red Sox could mean an advantage. Last season they were defending champions, but the team failed to make the playoffs. Performance was poor last season to finish 84-78 and third in the East Division of the American League. In this new short season, the team has all the hopes placed on the new manager Ron Roenicke. Obviously it will be a big challenge for Roenicke.
Last season the home record was negative at 37-43. The second series that year was against the Orioles, four long games to win just two. The offense was strong with 5.57 runs on average, but the defense was mediocre with an average of 5.42 runs and 8.75 hits. The best at bat was Rafael Devers (3B) with 647 at bats for 115 RBI, 32 home runs and 201 hits.
Nathan Eovaldi will be the starter for the Red Sox today against the Orioles. This is Eovaldi’s third season with the Red Sox. Last season just 2-1 and in 2018 was 3-3. Before playing with the Red Sox, Nathan played with Tampa, Yankees, Miami, and Dodgers.
