The MLB is back in action as the Detroit Tigers will clash with the Cincinnati Reds. The Tigers are heading into this game with Matthew Boyd as their pitcher and the Reds will counter with Sonny Gray.
Detroit Tigers Form
The Tigers managed only 47 wins in total last season. Moreover, 22 of those wins came against teams in the AL Central Division. Also, now the Detroit side will be playing most of their games against teams in this division. Yet, the reality is that it will be difficult for the Tigers to get to the 22 marks again. This is based on the fact that the team lacks offensive firepower, no pitching, and their depth is not at the needed level. Therefore, it will be challenging for them to play a schedule of 60 games in 66 days.
On a positive side, the Tigers signed C.J. Cron in the offseason and they still have the consistent Miguel Cabrera. Nevertheless, the Tigers were one of the worst teams in the MLB last season. And the expectation is that it will be similar for them this year as well.
Rankings and Statistical Data
The Tigers scored an average of 3.61 runs per game last season which was the 30th score in the league. They were 26th in hitting at .240, and 29th in homers with a total of 149. On the mound, they were placed on the 28th in ERA at 5.24, 28th in WHIP at 1.46, and 28th in Quality Starts with 40.
Cincinnati Reds Form
The Reds showed a lot of potential last season. Moreover, they were placed on the 4th spot in the NL Central. Also, their total win this year is 32.5 and the odds are on their side for a winning season.
They had their fair share of offensive struggles last season. But it seems that the additions of Mike Moustakas and Nick Castellanos will strongly improve their offensive firepower. On top of that, they have Eugenio Suarez and Nick Senzel as promising players that had a good season last year. Therefore, the Reds can be the surprise package this season.
Rankings and Statistical Data
The Reds scored an average of 4.33 runs per game last season which was enough for the 25th spot in the league. Also, they had the 24th record in hitting at .244, and 14th in homers with a total of 227. On the mound, they were 8th in ERA at 4.18, 6th in WHIP at 1.26, and 12th in Quality Starts with 65.
Prediction
The Reds have shown a lot more potential last season and their offense is better. On the other side, the Tigers will struggle this season. Therefore, I expect a solid win for the Reds in this game.
