New England Patriots vs. Los Angeles Rams, Super Bowl LIII. Tom Brady again in another consecutive final of the season. The Patriots although they are not favorites for this super bowl, or maybe if they are, they come with problems similar to the previous super bowl. The defense is still a problem by air. The Patriots still need better RBs but they must settle for Michel and White. The Rams are powerful, of that there is no doubt, with Gurley and Goff I think it’s enough to win a super bowl, but the Patriots have a system that is hard to break.
New England Patriots: Win or nothing.
The Patriots are not 100% favorite for this game because of multiple factors. One of the most important factors was the defense, that part of the team allowed the Patriots to lose two of the first three games of the season. The overall record including the victory against the Chiefs for the conference is 13-5-0.
The defensive problem
All season the Patriots had serious problems with the defense, especially allowing an average of 250.4 pass yards per game with 22.8 passes completed. The defense by air was always the culprit of the touchdowns. The defense against the rival rushes has been a bit more efficient allowing only 21.6 rushes per game with 103.6 rush yards.
The offensive keeps going
Despite all the problems at the beginning of the season, the offense continues to do a good job. The offense in charge of Tom Brady by air is generating 274.9 pass yards with 24.6 complete passes. The average points per game is 28.6 for the whole season, 31.1 rushes with White and Michel contributing up to 131.6 rush yards.
Tom Brady
The season for Brady ended with good numbers, they were not the best numbers of his career but those numbers were enough to get Patrick Mahomes out of the way. 65.8% passes completed, 4355 yards, 29 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Against the Chiefs the completions were 30-46 with 65.22%, 348 yards, 1 touchdown and two interceptions.
Los Angeles Rams: We are strong but with luck.
The Rams had some luck against the Saints, after losing the first quarter with Drew Brees many thought the season was over for the Rams. But thanks to the solid strategy the Rams have had all season, the points came in the second half to win 26-23.
Offensive force with Gurley
Gurley made a couple of mistakes against the Saints, but that was in the past. The numbers of Gurley are incredible, 256 rushes, 1251 yards and 17 touchdowns. Against the Saints, Gurley had the worst game of the season with just four rushes and 10 yards but with a touchdown. The Rams are scoring 32.4 points per game all season, the second quarter is usually the best quarter for the Rams with an average of 10 points.
Power by air with Goff
Goff is very important for the Rams since everything is not rushes. With Goff the team is averaging up to 277.3 pass yards with 22.7 complete passes. The defense only allows 23.8 points per game, 23.8 rushes with 114.2 rush yards. By air the defense is not as efficient but only allows up to 237.8 pass yards.
Jared Goff
The season for Goff was magnificent, 64.9% in completed passes, 4688 yards with 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. Against the Saints his performance was normal with 25-40 passes completed for 62.50%, just a touchdown with an interception. The problem for Goff has been the most difficult teams of the season: Bears 4 interceptions, Seahawks 1/2 but against most the performance was good.
