The last series against the Pirates was last year, the Pirates won 2-1 the series.
Joey Lucchesi will open the series tonight. So far Lucchesi has positive numbers with three wins in five games. 4.57 ERA, 41.2 pitched innings, 43 hits, 22 runs, 4 home runs and 40 strike outs and 1,355 WHIP. Only three wins for Lucchesi in five games at home, the last win was against the Reds in the last game of the series at home 4-3.
Pittsburgh Pirates: Another series with good expectations.
The Pirates this season have a positive record with twelve wins in 22 games. Prior to this series the Pirates lost to the Diamondbacks 1-2, but previously they had won a long series against Cards 3-1. So far the Pirates lost three series on the road, one against the Cubs 1-2, Dodgers 0-3 and the most recent Diamondbacks. The record in the last ten games on the road is 6-4.
On the road the Pirates are scoring an average of 3.77 runs per game, 2.73 walks, 8.55 hits, 0.86 home runs, 15.64 left on base. The defense has been weak allowing up to 4.77 runs per game, 3.27 walks, 9.05 strike outs, 8.09 hits, 1.00 home runs, 14.64 left on base. In the series against the Diamondbacks the Pirates allowed 22 runs in the entire series.
Jordan Lyles is the third best pitcher of the Pirates this season. Three victories in four games, 2.09 ERA, 38.2 pitched innings, 27 hits, 10 runs, 3 home runs, 35 strike outs and 1,152 WHIP. Three victories in three games on the road this season for Lyles. The last victory for Lyles was against the Cards in the third of the series 2-1.
