This Sunday will feature one of the most heated rivalry games in all of the NFL between the Bears and the Packers. The Bears have just pulled off a stunning upset win at home against the feared Los Angeles Rams. This was their statement win of the season, making a compelling case for the Bears to belong in the conversation of the teams to go deep in the playoffs. The Packers are heavily under-performing this year, as evident in the mid-season firing of head coach Mike McCarthy.
The Bears are 4-0 against the spread (ATS) this year in revenge situations. This sets them up nicely to avenge their previous loss against the Packers. They are 6-1 ATS at home with average winning spreads of 11. With playoff implications on the line, the Bears are much more motivated than the Packers to win this game .
The Bears have covered a perfect 5-0 at home this season, where they will once again be at home on Sunday against the Packers.
Green Bay is a miserable 0-5 on the road this year, and only covering one time. They lose by an average of 8 points on their road games. Against conference opponents, they’ve covered only 3 out of 9 times ATS. They’re 1-2 ATS as underdogs this season, while the Bears are 7-3 when coming in as favorites. The Bears will be the clear favorites in Sunday’s game.
The only reasons why this point spread is not 10 or more are because Green Bay is a fan favorite, and they usually play the Bears tough. However, we should be mindful that these are not the typical Packers and Bears team that we are used to in previous years. They are very far apart on their talent this year. I expect the Bears to easily win and cover the spread.
My prediction: Take the Chicago Bears -5.5.
