The first round of the NHL play is back in action on Saturday afternoon as the 8th seeded Colorado Avalanche will clash with the top-seeded Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena. The Predators won the first game by a stunning score of 5-2.
Colorado Avalanche Form
The Colorado Avalanche this year it has been in a good form as they posted 43 wins and qualified for a playoff spot. However, they will need a miracle in the postseason as they are facing on of the best team in the NHL. On that note, it is important to emphasize that they didn’t have a good start as they were beaten by the mighty Preds in game one by a score of 5-2. The Avs played well for the most part of the game, but they fell apart in the 3rd period as the Preds were ruthless and scored three goals in the final frame. The Avalanche have gone 15-27 in the away games and they have averaged 2.67 goals per game and have allowed 3.40 goals per game in those games.
The Avs were solid on offense this season as they are placed on the 10th spot in the league in scoring at 3.11 goals per game, converting an average of 22.0% of their chances. Their defensive form has been a bit above average this season as they are ranked at the 14th spot in goals allowed, letting in an average of 2.88 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 16.7% of their chances.
Nashville Predators Form
The Nashville Predators had an amazing run to the Stanley Cup Finals as an 8th seed last season. They started the postseason with a great win as they took out the Avalanche in game one by a score of 5-2. The Preds showed their class in the 3rd period by scoring the crucial three goals. Nashville is on a run as they have now won their last three games in a row and they have allowed a total of 10 goals over their last five games. The Preds were unlucky to lose the final against the Penguins last year, but this season there is a good feeling about their chances. The Predators have a home form of 29-13 and they have averaged 3.40 goals per game and have letting in 2.52 goals per game in those games.
On the offensive side of the game, Nashville had a great stats as they are ranked 7th in the league in scoring at 3.18 goals per game, converting on 21.2% of their chances. At the defensive part of the game, the Preds enjoyed a strong form as are they ranked 2nd in goals allowed, letting in an average of 2.49 goals per game, allowing the opposing teams to convert on 18.1% of their chances.
The Predators had a great run to the Finals last year. However, they were unlucky as they were beaten by the Penguins. It seems that this year they are more determined to prove that they are a better team and can see them as one of the favorites to win the Stanley Cup. The Preds enjoyed a solid 29-13 form here at home for the year. They have won all home games agains the Avs this Year and I expect another Predators win on Saturday. Go for a Predators win.
