The MLB brings more excitement today as the Washington Nationals will grapple with the Cincinnati Reds at the Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati, Ohio. This will be the first game of the three-game series. The Nationals were the better team as they won 6 of their seven encounters with the Reds.
Washington Nationals Form
The Nats are not the same team as last year. Moreover, they did not expect much from this season. However, it seems that this team has the potential to do more. To be more specific, they managed to step up after the disappointment against the Mets with 5 wins in their last 6 games.
Yet, despite their solid recent form, the Nationals are still 9.5 games out of first in the national league East. Therefore, it is safe to say that they need to work hard in order to get into the mix.
On the offensive side of the game, the Nationals score an average of 4.75 runs per game. Therefore, this record is enough for the 17th spot in the league in scoring offence. Also, they have an average hitting at .251 with 71 homers so far.
On the mound, they are 23rd in the league in ERA at 4.86, while also ranking 21st in WHIP at 1.37 and 3rd in K’s with 542.
Cincinnati Reds Form
The Reds are not a consistent team this season. Moreover, they are now on the bottom spot in the NL spot. However, this is not a bad team as they have the potential for more.
On a positive note, their offence is solid as they have an average of 7.86 runs per game during the last 7 games.
Also, they have been solid at home as their record is 14-13 so far this season.
On the offensive side of the game, the Reds score an average of 4.45 runs per game. Also, their hitting is at .233 and they have 82 homers so far. On the mound, they are placed on the 5th spot in the league in ERA at 3.72, while also ranking 8th in WHIP at 1.25 and 2nd in K’s with 546.
The Reds are improving in their offensive game and it seems that they have the potential for more. However, that does not change the fact that they are not playing well this season. Also, they are on the bottom spot in their division. I think that they will play good in this game. However, I will take the Nationals to win this one in a tight contest. They have the momentum on their side.
